DC COA’s ‘Round-Robin’ Promotion Package Review Session
(Email SC: Run through 11/21/25)
When: Wednesday, December 3rd
Where: Brigadier General Charles E. McGee Library, located in downtown Silver Spring, MD; 900 Wayne Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910
Time: 6:00 pm- 8:00pm
Available Spots: 25 – To reserve your spot, send your name, rank, and category to CDR Tyler Sharp (tsharp@cdc.gov) by November 21st
Objective: Reviewing officers will receive and review other officers’ promotion packages (i.e., PIR and CV cover page only) and provide direct feedback on how best to improve the read-ability of the package.
Protocol: Participating officers will be instructed to bring 10 copies of their PIR and CV cover page with them to the session. Each officer will each review ~5 packages, and will be given 10 minutes to review each package before passing them to the next reviewing officer. Officers will be provided with a rubric/checklist for how to evaluate package (that is, a scoring sheet that is based on the most current benchmarks for promotion), as well as a briefing on how to review packages. Officers will be grouped by Promotion Group (i.e., Medical, Dental, Applied Public Health, Allied Health, Medical Services) to review packages. All officers within each Promotion Group will review other officers’ packages, regardless of rank. Depending on the number of officers available, some cross-Promotion Group review may occur.
Outcome: Officers will receive the scoresheets from each reviewing officer. From this feedback, officers will be able to see an approximation of not only their score for each benchmark, but (arguably more importantly) what benchmarks reviewers could not find in the PIR or CV cover page. This feedback should enable officers to re-structure their promotion documents where needed to improve the readability and ‘benchmark find-a-bility’ of their packages.
**Sustenance: Pizza and beverages will be provided by DC COA.
